Meeting with Werner Erhard at the Leadership Course at Dartmouth College
Werner Erhard, an icon in the transformational learning field, and Michael Jensen of Harvard Business School have been developing a comprehensive course that focuses on being a leader. This course uses an Ontological model that is designed to leave participants of the course being leaders as their natural self expression. The intention of this course is to have the material from this course utilized in training effective leaders in all fields of life to bring about a future in which the problems we face can be solved. After attending this course it became clear to me that leadership was the key to having life work at the level of individual, and at the level of the world community. I saw the possibility of being a leader in bringing a new paradigm into existence in the area of mental health and psychology. The application of this Ontological model in working with people to transform their experience of life so that they are free to lead life effectively and be relieved of the anxiety and depression that has held them back has become my mission. As the course promised I found myself being used by this possibility when I was approached to visit Moscow and begin training mental health professionals in the application of this work. I delivered a presentation at the medical university of Moscow, where graduate students expressed great interest and excitement about the power of this new work. I also delivered a three day course at the Institute of Psychology and Pedagogy of Moscow where psychologists in training experienced the first person direct impact of a transformational approach for resolving anxiety and depression. This approach addresses these issues at their source, so that rather than work within the framework of personality to bring about change, the focus is on recognizing one's natural ability to create who one is being in life. Rather than working to resolve the past, or learning to cope more effectively this work deals with completing the past, getting to zero, and then creating a new future to live into. The application of the material from this new model for leadership in working with people limited by neurotic fear, and the depression that comes up with failures in relationships and work life is very powerful and produces breakthrough results that can be sustained. I am very excited about bringing this work into the field of psychology and empowering all mental health workers to move into a new future in which we shift from controlling symptoms to creating well being.
